Welding. - Water-jacketed rotary electrodes for welding-machines are provided with means for causing ejection of air from the jackets such as webs arranged therein. Fig. 1 shows rotary jacketed electrodes 1, 2 the jacket 5 having six radial webs dividing it into six compartments each communicating with the jacket 4 and hollow shaft 13 by way of apertures 6, 12 respectively and the jacket 19 also having six radial webs dividing it into six compartments each open to the exterior of the shaft 15 and communicating with the jacket 17. The jackets 4, 17 may be fitted with webs in the same manner. Fig. 4 shows a leak-off 33 to the shaft-bearing 34 arranged on the exhaust side of the jacket and affording lubrication of the bearing. A collar 35 secured to the electrode collects the leak-off water which drips over the edge 36 of the collar away from the rim of the electrode. In the case of an electrode having a jacket on one side only, the jacket is divided by a diaphragm into two parallel compartments, the one next the electrode being provided with webs and con. nected to the outlet.
