Abstract

503,409. Cooling dynamo - electric machines. SCOTT, W. Oct. 1, 1937, No. 26583. [Class 35] The invention relates to surface-cooled dynamo-electric machines wherein a fan is disposed within an end cover and bearing of the machine and is separated from the enclosed interior by a diaphragm arranged between the end cover and the body of the machine ; according to the invention, the diaphragm 4 extends from the shaft 2 to the carcase 7 where it is secured directly between the carcase and the adjacent end cover 3 which is provided with a series of outlets 15 to direct air delivered by the fan along the external surface of the carcase. The diaphragm may be a plain disc or may be dished inwardly or outwardly as determined by space requirements. The fan blades are on the side of a disc remote from the diaphragm which disc is secured to the shaft and extends nearly to the periphery of the diaphragm. The carcase 7 and end covers 3, 13 may be plain or ribbed as shown at 16 and the carcase may be jacketed. Feet may be provided on the carcase or end covers.
