Abstract
A lower, first heating register (2) installed in a fixed position and an upper, second heating register (3) which is adjustable relative to the lower register are located in the grilling space (22) of the grill which can be heated by town gas, natural gas, or propane gas etc. The lower heating register (2) contains one central distributor pipe and two distributor pipes located on the outside (6, 7) which each have a number of mutually facing, horizontally pointing gas outlet orifices (4), so that the flames emanating from these outlet orifices each form a flame bed (9). A short-term heat-storage heating grid (12) is located above each of these flame beds (9). The distributor pipes (7), located on the outside, of the lower heating register contain upward-pointing gas outlet orifices (5) which can be selectively freed or blocked by a slider plate arrangement (10, 11). Each heating register (2, 3) is associated with a plurality of support arrangements (16, 17, 34, 36) for containers (21) or plates (23, 35, 38), which are to receive material to be grilled, in such a way that the heating registers (2, 3) can be operated in the same way as in a top heat/bottom heat cooking or baking appliance. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Improvements in gas grills
This invention relates to gas grills of the kind com
prising a housing defining a grilling space recessed
in the housing and open towards the operating side,
the side walls of which are provided with support
devices for the insertion of containers and the like for
receiving food to be prepared, with two indepen
dently operable heating registers arranged in the
housing. In particular, it relates to an all-gas grill for
large kitchens and restaurant establishments, where
an appliance which can rapidly and conveniently be
adapted for different modes of operation is required.
Known grill appliances are preferably constructed
for one single mode of operation and, in most cases,
have little adaptability to different ways of preparing
food. On the other hand, appliances which permit a
limited adaptability to operating variants take up a
relatively large space, require extensive care and are
relatively expensive.
It is therefore the object of the invention to prop
ose a grill which can be heated with different types
of gas, such as town gas, natural gas, propane gas
and the like, and which not only has a simple and
clear construction, but is also readily adaptable to
different requirements in use.
According to the invention there is provided a gas
grill comprising a housing defining a grilling space
recessed in the housing and open towards the
operating side, the side walls of which are provided
with support devices for the insertion of containers
and the like for receiving food to be prepared, two
independently operable heating registers being
arranged one above the other in the grilling space,
the lower heating register having horizontally point
ing first gas outlet orifices and vertically pointing
second gas outlet orifices, the latter orifices being
selectively blocked or opened by means of a slider
arrangement, a heating grid adapted to store heat
and release it upwards and downwards being
arranged above said first gas outlet orifices, and the
height of the position of the upper heating register
relative to the lower heating register being infinitely
adjustable.
A particular advantage of the grill according to the
invention is that, by means of individually adjustable
heating registers, different dishes can be prepared or
finished in a very narrow space, virtually without any
mutual hindrance.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is
described below, by way of example, by reference to
the drawing in which Fig. 1 shows a diagrammatic perspective, partially
in section, of a grill according to the invention,
Fig. 2 diagrammatically shows the lower heating
register, in section along the line ll-ll in Fig. land Fig. 3 diagrammatically shows the upper heating
register, in section along the line Ill-Ill in Fig. 1.
Fig. 1 conveys an overall view of the grill, which
can be operated with several types of gas, with two
heating registers 2 and 3 which are arranged one
above the other in a housing generally marked 1.
The lower heating register 2, more details of which are shown in Fig. 2, is designed as a flat pipe structure and is provided with longitudinally oriented and mutually spaced distributor pipes 6, 7 which contain gas outlet nozzles 4, 5 and the two ends of which are each welded into a collector pipe 8. By means of connecting elements which are not shown, the collector pipes are joined to the grill housing 1 in such a way that the lower heating register 2 is fixed in the housing 1.
Amongst the distributor pipes 6, 7, the central distributor pipe 6 contains, on each side, a row of nozzles 4 provided for a horizontal outflow of gas. The two distributor pipes 7 located on the outside each have one row of horizontal nozzles 4 which are located opposite the nozzles 4 on the central distributor pipe 6. This gives two flame beds 9, each fed by two rows of nozzles, for releasing heat upwards and downwards. The distributo;pipes 7 located on the outside additionally each contain one row of nozzles 5 which point vertically upwards and which can selectively be closed or opened by means of valve slider plates 10. The valve slider plates 10 shown diagrammatically in Figs. 1 and 2 can be moved simultaneously into their free position or into their blocked position by means of a hand-actuated slider linkage 11 and a handle 11'.
Above the flame beds 9, between adjacent distributor pipes 6,7 and supported on the latter, one heating grid 12 is located in each case, which heating grid is heated by the flames from the nozzles 4 and radiates the heat received upwards and downwards, in good distribution. The heating grids are constructed from crossing metal rods and, in addition to short-term heat storage, have the object of avoiding local overheating of material being grilled with direct or indirect heating.
The upward-pointing nozzles 5, which can be switched in and out, on the distributor pipes 7 located on the outside are used above all for direct heating of the marginal zones of the receptacles for material being grilled, which are located above the lower heating register 2. Closing of these nozzles 5 causes a gas pressure increase in the distributor pipes 7. Thus, more gas issues from those nozzles 4 of these pipes 7 which have remained open, the result being a more intense heating of the heating grids 12, due to the increase in the heat output from below. The quantity of heat radiated downwards by the grids is thus increased, whilst the quantity of heat radiated upwards is reduced by about the same amount due to the elimination of direct heating by flames from the nozzles 5.
The gas is fed in, from a connection point which is built into the rear wail of the housing and is not shown, via a main feed line 13, to which the supply line 15 of the lower heating register 2 is connected via a regulating valve 14 on the front of the grill housing 1.
According to Fig. 1, the lower heating register 2 is associated with a lower support arrangement 16 and an upper support arrangement 17, which each consist of two L-profiles which, at a distance from the heating register 2, are fixed in pairs at the same height to the two inner walls 19,20 of the housing.in the example shown, the lower support arrangement
16 carries a grill pan 21 which can be pulled out of
the grilling space 22, and the upper support
arrangement 17 carries a grill plate 23 which is
shown in broken lines and can likewise be pulled out
of the grilling space 22.It is clear that, in place of different receptacle means for the material to be gril
led, identical means can also be inserted, if desired
(that is to say two grill pans 21 or two grill plates 23), or the grill pan 21 can be pushed in at the top and the grill plate 23 can be pushed in at the bottom.
The upper heating register 3, a section of which is shown in Fig. 3, is advantageously an elongate rectangular structure of circular pipe, which is closed in itself and in which pipe sections 25,25' run on opposite sides, essentially parallel to one another.
The pipe sections 25 running in the longitudinal direction of the grilling space 22 and the (shorter) pipe sections 25', running at right angles thereto, are each provided with a number of approximately uniformly spaced nozzles 24 which are obliquely inclined outwards and downwards by about 300. Of the two short pipe sections 25' one is provided with a gas feed line 26 which traverses the inner wall 19 of the housing through the slot 27 and is connected to a regulating valve 28. The latter is connected via a flexible feed line 29 to the main feed line 13.
The height of the upper heating register 3 is infinitely adjustable in the direction of the arrow "A" within an appropriate range. For this purpose it is held, as can also be seen from Fig. 3, in a sliding guide which has two guide sleeves 30 which are welded vertically to the short pipe sections 25' and which can be moved up and down along one guide bar 32 in each case, by means of a turning lever device 31 which is diagrammatically shown in Fig. 3.
The adjustability of the height of the upper heating register3 makes possble, in principle, three different modes of operation of the grill according to the invention: 1. Heating register3 right at the top:
The housing cover plate section 33, above the grilling space 22, is heated by the heat rising from the heating register3 and can be used as a heating surface for dishes andlor plates. A grill pan or grill plate 35, like 21 or 23, can be placed on a support arrangement 34 (like 16 and 17) in position of medium height, and material to be grilled can be heated thereon by direct heating from the nonles 24.
If desired, the grill plate 35 can be used as top heat for material which is to be grilled and which is in a grill pan on the support arrangement.17 of the lower heating register 2.
2. Heating register 3 in a middle position:
A grill pan or a grill plate 38 can be placed on a
support arrangement 36 above the heating register
3; heating register 3 as bottom heat. A grill pan or a
grill plate 35 is likewise placed onto the support
arrangement 34; heating register 3 as top heat. At all
events, the heat still flowing upwards from the grill
plate 38 is sufficient to heat the housing cover plate
section 33 as a plate-warmer surface.
In either of the modes of operation 1 and 2, the
lower heating register 2 can be operated indepen
dently.
3. Heating register3 right at the bottom:
The support arrangement 34 is not used and the heating register 3 operates as top heat for material being grilled in a grill pan or grill plate 23 located on the support arrangement 17, the lower heating register 2 operating as bottom heat. In this case, the two different heating facilities provided by the vertical nozzles 5 in the distributor pipes 7, located on the outside of the lower heating register 2 can be used additionally. The grill thus operates in the manner of a top heat'bottom heat cooking or baking appliance.
