Abstract

207,865. Briggs, R. W. Sept. 5, 1922. Joints with longitudinal pressure and with yielding outer part compressed. - A joint for connecting a lead pipe to an iron or other metal pipe comprises the combination of a coned nipple c in the form of a plain tubular element internally screwed at one end for the reception of the iron or other metal pipe and having a single passage therethrough and an externally screwed portion with an internally screwed nut e adapted to screw on to the nipple and having a plain cylindrical extension loosely surrounding a ring b, which closely engages the flared end of the lead pipe a. The. extension of the nut has a turned-in flange f engaging the end of the ring b, which, on screwing up the parts, presses the lead pipe against the nipple to make a tight joint.
