Stencilling.-Relates to machines for printing on fabrics, paper &c. wherein is employed a stencil prepared from a textile fabric parts of which are rendered impermeable to ink. Fig. 1 shows one form of machine in which the stencil is employed, the stencil 5 being fixed in a frame 4 and laid on the sheet 3 to be printed, which, together with a supporting cloth 2, is carried on a table 1. Ink is supplied by a roller 6 inked by rollers 7 and adapted to be rolled over the stencil. In a modification, the roller 6 is supported in vertical guides and the pattern, sheet and supporting cloth are carried on a table traversable on rails beneath the roller. In a third form, Fig. 3, the stencil is in the form of an endless band 5 passing over guide-rollers 12 and over an inking-roller 6. The sheet 3 and supporting cloth 2 are passed between the roller 6 and an impression roller 11. For multi-colour printing, several printing-sets may be arranged around the roller 11. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also describes the preparation of the stencil by coating parts of the fabric with an ink-impermeable medium such as oil, and by a photographic process. It is also stated that the roller 6, in the first two forms of machine described, may be replaced by a pressure plate, ink being supplied by an ink cloth laid over the stencil. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
