Abstract

207,095. Weinbrenner, J. Feb. 21, 1923. Cleaning machinery pneumatically.-A suction device for cleaning carding cylinders comprise nozzles carried along a double-threaded shaft by a carrier provided with guide forks bearing en a guide rod parallel to the shaft. This shaft may be driven from the shaft of the carding-engine: the carrier may be arranged to be tilted out of the way. The Figure shows a form in which the guide rod c is fixed eccentrically by pins k in discs d mounted in bearing rings e which form part of the brackets a carrying the screw threaded rod b. The nozzle carrier is formed with nozzles for the carding cylinder and the doffer, and is provided with guide forks i which in one position of the guide rod, bear against it. When the screwed pins have been withdrawn, and the discs rotated to bring the rod clear of the guides, the carrier tilts until a projection u on it engages a stop v, when the nozzles are swung out of the way of their cylinders. In a modification, the guide rod c is fixed to the brackets, and the guides i are attached by a screw to the nozzle carrier, and may be disconnected from it. The carrier is formed in two parts adjustably screwed together to allow the nozzles to be swung out of the way. The screw-threaded rod is rotated from the engine shaft l through a chain r, a wheel n loose on the shaft, and an arm p fixed on the shaft and carrying a pin q which may be caused to enter one of the holes o in the wheel. Grooves are formed at the ends of the screwed portion of the rod in which the pin of the carrier may rest at the ends of its travel until, being given a slight push, it again engages the thread.
