Abstract

To assist in making cuts of a desired length, for example in hair cutting or tailoring, without using a separate rule, a pair of scissors 1 is provided on one or both of its blades 2 with a length measuring scale 6. The scale 6, which may be engraved, may be formed on both sides of one or both blades and may extend along at least the major part of one or both handle portions 4. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in scissors This invention relates to scissors.
In the process of cutting hair particularly in the case of hair-styling it is often necessary to perform first a measuring operation on the locks of hair to be cut in order to maintain a desired geometry.
This operation is considerably time-consuming for the hair-stylist since he or she has to perform this measuring operation using a conventional ruler which is in fact a separate tool. In another application, it is often required in tailoring and dressmaking to effect cuts of a desired limited length also, for example in fashioning buttonholes, which equally require a previous measuring operation by means of an appropriate tool thus requiring a considerable amount of time.
The above mentioned cases are only two examples of the necessity for accurately measured cuts which may actually be required in several other fields as well.
It is the object of this invention to provide a pair of scissors which allows cuts of specific length to be obtained without the need to use a separate measuring tool. This is achieved by providing according to the invention a pair of scissors in which one or both of the blades is provided with a length measuring scale.
The invention will be illustrated by the description of one of its preferred embodiments which follows, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing which shows a pair of scissors in accordance with the invention.
The pair of scissors denoted generally by the numeral 1 is formed by two elements placed one over the other and pivotably coupled together by means of a pivot 3, each of said elements being formed, as is usual, by a blade 2 and a handle 4 having a gripping ring 5 at its end remote from the blade.
The scissors 1 differ from conventional scissors in that at least one surface of either of its elements is formed with a metric scale 6, sub-divided in centimetres and half centimetres, said scale preferably extending along the corresponding surface of respective handle 4 also. In the embodiment shown, the metric scale is engraved on said element.
The scale 6, in use of the scissors, will allow desired lengths of cut to be obtained automatically, obviously within a certain application and dimensional field, without the need to use a typical, separate measuring rule which involves an undesirably excessive use of time.
The scale 6 may be formed on one surface of either of the blades 2 and respective handle 4, or on both surfaces of one of the blades 2 and respective handle 4 as also on both surfaces of both the blades 2 and respective handle 4, and furthermore the scale 6 may also have a subdivision in millimetres as well as in any other linear measurement units, such as inches and subdivisions thereof.
1. A pair of scissors in which one or both of the blades is provided with a length measuring scale.
2. A pair of scissors according to claim 1 in which the or each scale extends along at least part of the respective handle(s).
3. A pair of scissors according to claim 1 or 2 in which the or each scale is engraved.
4. A pair of scissors according to any of the preceding claims in which the or each scale is in inches or centimetres and subdivisions thereof.
5. A pair of scissors substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accornpanying drawing.
