CONVERTIBLE IMPLEMENT FOR CUTTING AND MARKING.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 312,292, dated February. 17, 1885.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, IGNATIUS M. PRIBYL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chi cago, in the State of Illinois, have made certain new and useful Improvements in 0onvertible Implements, of which the following is the specification.

The nature and object of this invention is to make a convertible implement so that marking and cutting can be done by one and the same instrument.

Figure 1 is a plan view. of marking part of tool. Fig. 8 is a top view otmarking part of tool. Fig. 4 is a view of shoe-knife with marking device.

Similar letters of reference refer to similar parts in the different drawings.

In Fig. 1 is shown a pair of scissors or shears provided with a revolving marking device. To one of the rings is attached an arm, A, slotted, as shown in Fig. 3. In this slot is placed the markingwheel B, revolving on its axis 0. By taking hold of the blades of the scissors, or by retaining the thumb and finger in the rings, the marking-wheel B is passed over the fabric or other material desired to be out, which leaves a dotted line, indicating where the cutting is to be done. Fig. 2 is a detail the same is shown attached to a knife. By clasping the handle the marker can be used to indicate the line for cutting, which can be done by the blade. As the marker passes over the surface of the material the toothed wheel revolves.

I am aware that an aggregation of independent tools, when each does not perform some part or duty in the consummation of the end sought, is not a proper subject for a patent. I do not claim this as an aggregation of independent tools.

To cut fabrics or other material when this device is used, two things have to be donefirst, the material has to be marked to indicate where the cutting has to be done, then it has to be out, both of which can be done by the device herein shown.

I clain1- As a new article of manufacture,the herein described convertible implement. the same consisting of the pair of shears having upon one of the handle-nibs a bearing carrying a revolving marker, as set forth.
