Abstract

206,487. Hoffmann-La Roche & Co. Akt.-Ges., F. Nov. 1, 1922, [Convention date]. Emulsions, making; hypodermic injections; medicines for internal use.-Emulsions in oils of bismuth salts of higher fatty acids, suitable for hypodermic. intravenous, intramuscular or other parenteral injections, are prepared by dissolving the bismuth salts in a volatile organic solvent, mixing the solution with the oil and removing the solvent by evaporation. Suitable oils are natural oils, synthetic fatty acid esters and mineral oils. In examples, bismuth oleate is emulsified in olive oil, almond oil or paraffin oil, using ether as the solvent; the bismuth salt of tartaric acid di-iodide in olive oil using ether, benzene or petroleumether as solvent; and the bismuth salt of linolic acid in almond oil with ether as solvent. In all cases the solvent is evaporated first at atmospheric pressure and finally in vacuo.
