Abstract

206,279. Lord, S. S. Aug. 23, 1922. Hank type.-In a machine for sizing, bleaching, washing, dyeing, mechanizing and like treatment of hanks, the latter are carried by a roller 31 and cradle 28 mounted on an arm or carrier 16 which is mounted on the shaft 5 of a squeezing roller 3; mechanism is provided for depressing the carrier 16, and therefore the hank, into the liquid contained in a trough 1, and while immersed therein the hanks are moved through the liquid by freeing the roller 31 into engagement with the squeezing roller 3; the latter is rotated continuously, but at intervals its motion may be reversed to negative any effects due to creeping of the hanks. As shown, the carrier 16 is actuated bv a lever 18, the other end of which engages a cam groove 17 on a suitably-driven shaft 22, and when the carrier is in its depressed position, the roller 31 is by means of a cam 34 and lever 32 moved into engagement with the continuously-driven squeezing roller 3. the carrier being slotted for this purpose and the rollers being provided with gears which suitably engage. To reverse the motion of the roller 3, a third cam 25 is provided, which bv means of a lever 26 actuates clutches controlling the driving-mechanism 13. The carriers and squeezing rollers may, as shown, be duplicated, and two sets of hank-carriers may be arranged to co-operate with one set of squeezing-rollers. in which case the carriers are formed as doubleended levers, one arm of which is raised when the other is lowered into its trough.
