Abstract
23,325. Ermen, B. G. Nov. 5. Yarns and threads, finishing and dressing.-Relates to a machine for treating yarn &c. in a continuous manner by means of chemical solutions or liquids. In the machine shown, yarn is passed through a series of tanks a, b, c, d, e, the first containing sulphoric acid, the second water, the third a neutralizing-liquid, and the last two water. In the last tank the material is wound on reels, tubes, bobbins, or beams. The material may be dried before being wound, if desired The tanks carry pairs of squeezing-rollers, in connection with which are traversing-guides T<1>, T<2>, T<3>, similar guides being also provided in connection with the reels and feed-rollers i. Means are provided for emptying and filling the tanks. From the feed-rollers i the material passes beneath a tension roller j and over the movable guide-rollers l, m, n, o to the fixed guide-roller p in the first water tank b. Should the machine be temporarily stopped, a three-armed lever u, y, v is oscillated by a heart cam u<3> which makes a half revolution as the machine stops, whereby the rollers l, m, n are moved from the position shown in Fig. 3 to that shown in Fig. 7, in which the portion of yarn which was immersed in the acid trough a is transferred to the water trough b. When the machine is restarted, the cam u<3> makes another half revolution, bringing the parts referred to back into the position shown in Fig. 3, but, in order that no portion of the yarn may suffer a second immersion in the acid trough, the feeding and transmission rollers shown are started before the reimmersion is effected. The sleeve z carrying the cam u<3> and the mechanism for driving the feed-rollers &c. are each driven through clutches, and the clutch for driving the rollers is timed to come into gear a little before the cam u<3> has completed its half revolution on starting the machine. The clutch by which the cam u<3> is driven is shown in Figs. 5 and 6. When the machine is running, the sliding half R<2> of the clutch is held out of gear with the fixed half by a sliding pin R<1>, one end of which engages with one or other of a pair of cam surfaces and rests against one of the projecting portions R<13>, R<14> on a plate R, which is raised or lowered by the starting-lever. If the plate R is raised from the position shown in Fig. 5, the pin R<1> will fall off the lower cam surface, and the clutch coming into gear will revolve the sleeve z and pin R<1> in the direction indicated by the arrow until it rides up the incline of the upper cam surface and is stopped by the projecting portion R<14>, on completing a half revolution. On the next movement of the starting-lever, the plate R is depressed, and the pin R<1> allows the clutch, sleeve, and cam u<3> to make another half revolution.
