Hank type.-In a machine for mercerizing yarns, the lye and neutralizing tanks c, n are placed successively and automatically beneath the rollers a, b that carry the hanks. The lye tank c is pivoted at d and is lowered periodically by levers e, f, h the last of which bears against a cam-disk i. During the descent of the tank c, the contained liquor flows out through a side opening l into a stationary curved channel k, which conducts the liquor into a reservoir, from which it is pumped back, when required, into the trough c. When the trough c has been lowered from the rollers a, b, its place is taken by the neutralizing- tank n, which is raised by a cam i<1> acting upon levers q, o<1>, o, to the last of which the tank n is attached. The tank n is filled successively with different liquids, each of which is withdrawn automatically by means of a cam-operated valve t, as shown in Fig. 6. The liquid from the tank flows out into a trough r, which is rotatable horizontally to deliver the liquid to its own particular conduit s, which conducts it to a reservoir, from which it is again led at the proper moment into the tank n.
