Abstract

206,189. Lea, J. E. June 6, 1922. Periodic-counter speed indicators with recording-apparatus.-The rate of flow of granular material is registered, indicated and recorded at a distance electrically by means of a make-endbreak device on the meter spindlewhich controls a circuit including a magnet driving a pawl engaging a ratchet wheel on a shaft adapted to be connected to a driven shaft by a magnetic clutch. At regular intervals the circuit to the clutch is broken to allow the driven shaft to return to initial position. This shaft drives a rack carrying a recording pen to mark a clock-driven drum. The movements of more than one meter may be aggregated and similarly recorded and registered and an instrument for this purpose is shown in Fig. 1. The circuits from the meters (which may be those described in Specification 118,333) severally control the magnets f having armatures carrying pawls to drive ratchet wheels h connected by differential gearing with a single gear wheel j operating a shaft k<1> driving a counter q. A shaft k<2> through a pinion o and rack p controls the pen p' and the two shafts k<1>, k<2> are adapted to be clutched together by a magnetically operated clutch l the circuit to which is broken at regular intervals to allow the rack to return to zero.
