8297. Ruck, R. M. April 6. Taximeters; mixed drive; differential speed indicators. - Taximeters are modified to allow combination with an excess - speed indicator of the type described in Specifications 18,420/03 and 2569/05, by providing the pointer B, Fig. 1, with spring pawls C, D adapted to engage annular ratchet racks C<1>, D<1> driven by the clock and the vehicle respectively. The fare indications and their equivalent distances are arranged round the dial as shown in Fig. 1. The hand is returned to zero by gravity, on moving it away from the racks so as to disengage the pawls by means of a spring- controlled handle F, upon which the pointer is pivoted. The movement of the pawls towards the racks is prevented by a stop H carried by the indicating-hand. The rack D<1> is driven by worm-gearing S, S<1>, Fig. 5, actuated from the vehicledriven shaft O, and the rack L<1> engaging with the excess-speed indicating pawl L on the clock-driven hand K is driven' by the worm gearing N, N<1>, a clutch R being provided to change the speed at which the shaft n is driven, in accordance with the speed limit.
