Description

SPECIFICATION Device for hair setting or permanent waving This invention relates to a device for the setting or permanent waving of hair, and in particularto a device for curling and keeping hair locks curled during the fixing or permanent waving of the curls.
As is known, the making of the female or male coiffure by means of a setting or cold permanent waving process required curling pins for curling and keeping curled the locks of hair during their treatmentwith suitable fixing liquids. It is also known that around each curling pin there is wound a lock of hair which is kept fixed until the applied fixing liquid has wholly evaporated and the hair is again dry.
The known curling pins usually comprise a cylindrical, tubular body made of plastics material or metal, with holes in its surface and provided with a device for keeping the curled hair fixed. When used however for setting or permanent waving of very long hair, the known curling pins do not giver satisfying results. This is mainly due to the fact that, it is necessary to make a large numberofcoilsforwind- ing the whole length of each lock onto each curling pin; also it is rather difficult to keep the coils fixed during the treatment with the fixing liquid and drying, because of the slippery nature of the hair.
In addition, the known curling pins do not accommodate waves of various forms and varying orientation.
The general object of this invention is to provide a device for the setting or cold permanent waving of hair which ensures complete and perfect curling of very long hair.
It is another object of this invention to provide a device for the setting or cold permanent waving of hair which allows various required wave forms to be obtained.
In accordance with the present invention a device for the setting or permanent waving of hair, comprises at least two cylindrical, tubular curling pins of different diameter such that one can be inserted coaxially into the other, with the interspace between the outer surface of the inner curling pin and the inner surface of the outer curling pin of sufficient size for containing at least one coii of hair curled around the curling pin of smaller diameter.
Each curling pin has a strap or other locking device for keeping the hair tightly curled around the pin and also has a cap which ensures orderly retention of the lock of hair. The surface of the cap and that of the curling pins has a pattern of holes shaped and arranged as desired for draining the liquid used for treating the hair, through the curled up hair. The holes, in addiction, allow the flow of warm or hot air during the drying phase.
The construction and function of a device according to the invention for the setting or permanent waving of hair should be more clearly understood from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment which is illustrated by way of nonlimitative example in the accompanying drawings, wherein: Fig. lisa cross-section of the device; Fig. 2 is a perspective exploded view of the curling pins and caps of the device shown in Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the device.
Referring now to the drawings, the device for the setting and permanentwaving of hair, in accordance with this invention, comprises three cylindrical, tubular curling pins 1,4 and 6, of progressively reduced diameter intended to be disposed in concentric spaced relation to one another.
Each curling pin 1,4 and 6 has at one end an elastic strap 3 which is pivotally retained by means of a fixing button 20, 16 and 12 respectively. Each elastic strap 3 has at its free end a slot 22, 17 and 14 respectively for each curling pin.
The large pin I and the medium size pin 4 each have a lateral longitudinal opening 10 and 11 respectively, and are open at their ends 8 and 9 remote from the ends which carry the elastic straps 3. The large curling pin 1 and the medium curling pin 4 each have a cap 2 and 5 respectively, whilst the small curling pin 6 has both ends closed by a cap 7. The cap 7 of the small curling pin 6 opposite that on which the strap 3 is pivoted, has a button 13.
In addition, each cap 2 and 5 has a respective button 18 and 21.
The cylindrical surfac s of the curling pins 1,4 and 6 as well as the heads 0 the caps 7, 5 and 2 are formed with holes 23, 24 respectively.
The device functions as follows: First, the ends of a lock of hair are curled around the surface of the small curling pin 6 and the coils formed are fixed with its elastic strap 3 by fastening the slot 14 to the button 13. The curling pin 6 together with the tied lock of hair is now inserted into the hollow space 15 of the medium sized curling pin 4 by passing the strap3 along the longitudinal opening 11. After having inserted the pin 6, the head opening 9 of the curling pin 4 is closed by means of the cap 5 which is snapped into the said opening. On the now closed curling pin 4 is curled a second part of the lock of hair, which is then fixed with the elastic strap 3, the slot 17 being then connected to the button 18 of the cap 5.The medium sized curling pin 4 loaded in this manner is now introduced into the hollow space 19 of the large curling pin 1, by passing its strap 3 along the longitudinal opening 10. The end of the large curling pin 1 is then snapped closed with the cap and the surface of the pin 1 is now curled with the remaining part of the lock of hair, the coils so obtained being fixed with the elastic strap 3 by tying the slot 22 to the button 21 of the cap 2. With this last fixing step the hairdresser completes the curling of the whole lock of hair and fixes at the same time the curling pin assembly containing the curled lock of hair. While proceeding with this curling phase, insertion and fixing of each lock of hair, the hairdresser keeps the same wetted with suitable liquids which flow through the holes 23 and 24.
For the coaxial insertion of the curling pins one into another, the buttons 12, 13, 16, 18,20 and 21 enter corresponding opposite recesses (not shown) in the bottom of the curling pin of larger diameter and of the caps 5 and 2. In this way, each button finds the corresponding guide and centering seat.
In Fig. 2, the surfaces of the curling pins are shown smooth for purposes of simplicity, although preferably they are perforated.
The device of the invention can be made of metal or plastics, material with the latter being preferred because of its lightness and resistance to treating solutions and chemical agents.
In the drawings, this device is shown as being formed of three curling pins of different size; it isto be understood however that only two curling pins or more than three curling pins may be provided. In addition, in the practical embodiment of this device, various changes, modifications and variations may be made always within the ambit of the appended statement of claim.
