Wood substitute; fibrous plastic compositions.- A mixture of sawdust and a finely divided filler such as chalk, soapstone, or talc is moistened with a dilute (less than 10 per cent) solution of glue to which a hardening agent such as potassium bichromate, has been added. Acetic acid may also be added to the glue. The mixture is moulded under high pressure either with or without reinforcement, which may take the form of a layer of wood veneer.
