Abstract

205,673. Yates, C. H. Oct. 11, 1922. Joint-making packing.-In a gasket having openings for both high and low-pressure fluids, primarily applicable for the joint between the cylinder block and the cylinder head or the inlet and exhaust pipes of an internal-combustion engine, the openings for high-pressure fluid are surrounded by strips or rings of jointing material wholly or partially sheathed in metal. The gasket may be a strip 1 of copper &c., the openings 2 for the cylinders and in some cases for the valves being surrounded by rings 6 of compressed asbestos enclosed in metal sheathings 7, which may be secured by bending them over the edges of the openings. The gasket may be associated with a layer 9 of compressed asbestos having the necessary openings. Specification 181,625 is referred to.
