Abstract

205,324. Seligman, R. Oct. 5, 1922. Moving - chamber apparatus; varying quantity measured in.-Relates to apparatus having a single or multichambered valve and consists in a construction in which the valve is rotated by a disc forming an end cover for the valve casing and in which provision is made for varying the capacity. The valve b rotates in a casing a and is provided with inlet and outlet ports c, d adapted to register with ports g, h in the casing, air ports p, j in the latter registering with ports f, e in the valve. The valve is closed at one end by a cover q having a cone seating secured by a screwed ring t. The other end is closed by a cover 1 provided with a handle 4 for turning the valve, a screw union ensuring a tight joint at the end of the casing and also draining the coned valve home into the seating. A pin 3 affords a driving connection between cover and valve. The end q may be removed and an extension closed at one end and fitted with a cone at the other substituted for enlarging the chamber, or the cone may slope the other way and this part inserted into the valve to diminish the capacity. In the four-chambered valve adapted for continuous rotation shown in Fig. 7, each chamber has an elongated port 5 adapted to register with inlet and outlet ports g, h and a similar air-port alongside the port 5 adapted in the top position to register with an air port 7 during filling while a port 8 running lengthwise registers with an air port in the casing during discharge.
