Abstract

293,235. Heilmann, J. E. Sept. 13, 1927. Moving-chamber apparatus. - Relates to apparatus for dealing with liquids, or semi-liquids such as jam, of the type, comprising a vessel divided into two compartments by a vertical partition plate adapted to be rotated to bring one chamber to a filling orifice and the other to a discharging orifice, and consists in providing communication between the chambers for allowing the air expelled from one chamber during filling to assist in discharging the other chamber. The vessel 1 which has a cover 2 and flooring 3 is divided into two similar measuring chambers by a partition 2 mounted on a shaft 4 and extending the whole length of the vessel. The partition may be rotated by the handle 8 through an angle limited by stops 18 so that the measuring chambers alternately communicate with a filling opening 11 and with a discharge opening 12. The chambers are in communication at the top through a pipe 14 in which is a throttle valve 15, and ball valves 16 may be provided which automatically close the communication between the chamber when either chamber is full. The vessel 1 has a longitudinal opening down one side closed by a flange 19 except at the discharge opening 22 attached to the discharge spout 12, the flange sliding in guides 21 provided on the outside of the vessel. By moving the spout 12 to a desired level the quantity delivered may be varied. In a modification, the, conveyer carrying the jam receptacles carries pins adapted to engage, levers geared together by quadrants to effect a rocking to and fro of the shaft 4.
