Abstract
413,108. Delivering measured quantities of liquid. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE DE MANUTENTION DES LIQUIDES, 107, Boulevard Raspail, Paris. May 24, 1933, No. 15061. Convention date, May 30, 1932. [Class 106 (v).] In apparatus for delivering measured quantities of liquid comprising a transparent measuring chamber mounted on a base having admission and distribution openings, the chamber which is of bell shape has at the top a float controlled air valve and is secured in a fluid-tight manner on a movable base provided with an operating handle, the movable base being mounted in a rotatable and fluid-tight manner on a fixed base adapted to be connected to a pipe from a supply tank. The apparatus is intended for alimentary liquids, more particularly milk and is adapted to be readily dismantled for cleaning. The edges of an opening at the top of the chamber or container 1 are clamped between a cap 8 and a plug 5 screwing thereinto, an air passage formed in the cap being controlled by a needle valve 4 operated by a float 2 through levers 3. At its lower end the container is secured to a movable base member 14 by means of a rubber packing ring 16 and a clamping ring 15 connected to the member 14 by spring fasteners 17. The member 14 is adapted to be rotated by means of a handle 20 over a stationary base member 23, a fluid-tight joint being obtained by an intermediate rubber packing member 21 which is prevented from rotating by means of bosses 22 engaging in recesses in the member 23. A boss 24 depending from the movable member 14 projects through a central hole in the packing member 21 and into a recess 23<a> in the stationary base. A nut 25, spring 26 and stud 27 screwing into the boss 24 serve to press the base members together and take up the wear of the rubbing parts. The supply pipe is adapted to be connected to the underside of the stationary base by means of hinged bolts 28. By unscrewing the cap 8, nut 25 and bolts 28 and disconnecting the spring fasteners 17 the apparatus may be dismantled. Liquid is delivered from the container through a duct 30 and port v in the packing member 21 which port communicates with an arcuate groove v<11> formed in the upper face of the member 21 and terminating in a recess v<1>. Upstanding from the centre of the movable base member 14 is a duct 18 connected by a radial extension 18<1> to a port t. The member 14 also has two other ports r<1> and t'. In order to fill the container the member 14 is rotated so that port r<1> co-operates with a port r, Fig. 9, through the packing member above the supply pipe connection. By rotating the member 14 so that the port t co-operates with the port v, Fig. 11, the container will be discharged down to the level of the top of the duct 18. By a further rotation the port t may be brought into alignment with the recess v<1>, Fig. 13, and the container may then be fully discharged by way of duct 18 and groove v<11> and also by way of port t<1> which in this position communicates with the port v. An accurate adjustment of the capacity of the container may be made by inserting a block 19 of suitable volume. The supply tank preferably comprises an outer steel casing and a lining of pure aluminium spaced therefrom, the intermediate space being filled with heat-insulating material.
