Abstract

Flexible-band files; covers. - In a loose-leaf binder of the thong type, each thong passes through a slot in the adjustable clamping-bar and extends horizontally at right angles thereto under a bridge plate spaced above the clamping-bar, the bridge plate or a locking-device carried thereby being adapted to engage the thong and retain it in any position to which it is adjusted. In one form, Figs. 1 and 2, the bridge plate 7 is situated over the slot 6 in the clamping-bar 2 and has mounted in it a screw 9 carrying a pressure plate 11 which engages the thong 4 to secure it. The pressure plate may be concentric with the screw 9 or may be chamfered at one edge. Recesses 13 are provided in the upper cover 1 to receive the bridge plates 7 and the ends of the screws 9 so as to allow the cover to fold down down flat. In a second form, Fig. 5, two slots 22 are provided in the upper clamping-bar 19, the strip 24 adjacent the outer slot being bent upwardly to form a bridge plate under which the thong 23 is passed so as to be held frictionally. One end of each thong is secured to the fixed clamping-bar by being passed through a slot therein and riveted thereto or a metal wedge is driven in at the back edge of the slot. The free ends of the thongs may be looped and provided with sliding adjusting-buckles. A pocket may be provided in the cover to receive a key for operating the screws 9.
