Centrifugal governors. - In a centrifugal governor for a turbine or other prime mover, the governor rod 32 is connected with its loading spring 54 through a lever 8 pivoted on a knife edge 37. The end of the spring is connected to a carriage 42 which is moved along the lever 8 to alter the critical speed by a hand wheel 46 or a motor 47. The displacement of the carriage 42 along the lever 8 alters the tension of the spring as well as its leverage. The governor weights 10 rock on knife edges 11 inside a cage 14 driven by worm gear 22, and are connected to the rod 32 by links 29 and arms 26, both provided with knife edge bearings.
