Abstract
A system for checking the angular position of a pivotably-movable mirror 4 comprises a dual-beam zero-path- difference interferometer with a polychromatic light source 2, and a detector 3 of broad-band spectral sensitivity, the dual beams being formed by partially-transmissive/partially- reflective zones 6, 7 on one surface of a plane parallel plate 1 the other surface of which has internally reflective zones 9, 10, mirror 4 forming part of the interferometer and reflecting each of the light beams 12A, 12B. Detector 3 emits an output signal burst the peak value of which denotes when the mirror is in the predetermined angular position which provides a zero path difference for beams 12A, 12B. Different angular positions of the mirror 4 can be checked by arranging a plurality of interferometers having different optical path lengths or alternatively beams 12A, 12B can have a mixture of polychromatic and monochromatic light, the cyclic nature of the images of the latter providing a measure of the angular deviation of the mirror. <IMAGE>
