Cased forms; wire.-A composite wire for sealing into glass &c. consists of a nickel-iron core coated with nickel to which it is integrally united by an alloy bond or the formation of a solid solution of the nickel with the alloy. In an example of manufacture, a nickel-iron wire is passed first through a cleaner comprising pads charged with cerbon tetrachloride from a reservoir, then through an annealing furnace charged with hydrogen, then through a plating- bath in which the electrolyte is nickel-ammonium sulphate. The wire is then annealed at 750‹ C. The diameter of the plated wire is then reduced successively by cold-drawing and hot-swaging operations, again annealed, and finally drawn to the require diameter.
