Moving-chamber apparatus for pulverulent materials.-In an appliance for delivering powdered substances, such as soap, of the kind wherein the powder receptacle has a discharge valve at its lower end adapted to be manipulated by upward pressure against a weight, the weight of the powdered substance is utilized to, close the valve or discharge opening. The powder is carried in a container in the form of a lining b vertically movable within the casing a and formed with an opening in the base c with an extension e providing for manipulation. The discharge opening is normally closed by a valve or enlargement on a central rod or stem f fixed to the cover g of the casing and arrangements may be provided for delivering measured quantities of the powder. As shown in Fig. 1, the central stem f is provided with two enlargements f<1>, f<2> co-operating with two enlargements e<1>, e<2> in the tubular extension e, so that on the first upward and downward movement of the receptacle b powder is deposited in the enlargement e', and a second up and down movement is necessary to discharge this past the enlargement f<2>. In the form shown in Fig. 5, a loose conical cap m within the container cuts off a quantity of the powder when the container is raised, this being discharged past the valve enlargement k. In this form a conical extension n on the valve stem normally closes the end of the tubular extension e to exclude damp &c., and also serves to spread the powder. The part e' is preferably detachable to facilitate assemblage. In another arrangement, an elongated enlargement k, Fig. 5, co-operates with a single enlargement e', Fig. 1. Instead of the double conical enlargements f<1>, f<2>, Fig. 1, globular or ellipsoidal enlargements may be provided.
