Feeding-appliances for animals.-A V-shaped hopper having an opening at the lower end for the discharge of dry food into troughs for feeding pigs &c. is provided with one or more dischargeregulating valves pivotally suspended from supports adjustable vertically within the hopper. The valves e are of inverted V-section and are r.ivotally connected to rods f depending from a bar g which is adjustable vertically by screws h and nuts i<1>, or ratchet wheels &c. Where the valve e extends the full length of the hopper, the bar g may be dispensed with, or placed immediately above the valve, and the two supporting-rods made integral with the screws. In square or round hoppers the valve is supported by one rod and screw h. The troughs c may be provided with hanging swing doors d or with doors hinged to the sides of the hopper. The doors d may be in two parts hinged together at d<1>, and may be provided with a convex part l to rest on a pig's shoulders. Below the valve is a strip or block of wood n of the shape shown. To facilitate movement of the valves by the animals, T-shaped projections k may be provided. The upper parts of the valves may consist of hinged projecting plates e<1>. Each valve may be divided longitudinally, and fixed pegs or strips o provided to prevent movement of one half being communicated to the other. Bridge-pieces are provided in the hopper to cover the ends of adjacent valves. The angle of the valve may vary according to the nature of the food.
