Abstract

Air tubes and chambers; non- metallic elastic bodies and cores; detachable-rim attachments to wheels; tyre attachments to rims.-Pneumatic tyres of the single-tube type have embedded in the base a cylindrical ring 13, adapted to fit on the flat bed of the wheel rim and retained by a series of plates 25 which are turned inwardly to allow removal and replacement of the tyre. The inner part 8 of the tyre is formed by wrapping rubbercoated fabric or cords round a core 3, in the annular recess 5 of which is placed a rubber pad 6 which, in the finished tyre, serves as a cushion for use on deflation of the air-tube. The core is removed by cutting the tube 8 and pad 6 along the central line, the joint being subsequently sealed and strengthened by a strip of fabric 12. The ring 13 is secured to the tube 8 by rubber rings 16, 17 and another layer of rubber-coated fabric 18 applied. A reinforcing strip of fabric 19 is applied to the inner part of the tyre and a. rubber tread 21 to its outer part.
