Abstract
203,201. Hardy, C. R., and Hart Accumulator Co., Ltd. Sept. 26, 1922. Gas exits.-A gas exit which is situated above the level of the electrolyte in all positions of the battery cell consists of a chamber 3 communicating with the atmosphere through a tube 4 and with the interior of the cell through a tube 6 flush with the under surface of the chamber 3. An opening 5 which may consist of a tube flush with the bottom of the chamber 3 allows any liquid in the chamber to flow back into the cell. The tubes 4 and 5 may be closed at the bottom but provided with lateral openings. The tube 4 may project above the cell and be fitted with a rubber vent plug, or it may be closed at the upper end and provided with lateral openings. Baffles may be provided within the chamber 3, or a baffle 7 of the shape shown in Fig. 3 may be cemented by means of a cross-bar 8 on to the outside of the base of the chamber. The baffle may alternatively consist of a curved sheet of celluloid &c. cemented to the base of the chamber.
