Abstract

202,936. Day, A. March 23, 1922. Coating-machines. - In labelling-machines of the kind described in Specification 200,878, wherein a label coated with adhesive on its underside is placed under a bottomless box 23 and a ram 21 pushes a packet or other article 166 and the label into the box, the gummed labels are taken alternately from each of a pair of revolving pads 15, 16 having faces and the supply of adhesive to the pads from a roller carried by pivoted arms 78 is controlled by cams 70 secured to the same axis as the pads, the cams having semicircular ends joined by parallel straight surfaces lying in the planes of the faces of the pads. The pads and the cams 70 are rotated intermittently by a ratchetwheel operated by a crank on the main shaft 12, a band-brake being applied after each half-revolution and detents operated to hold the parts while a gummed label is taken from the upper pad and a label is applied to the bottom pad from a holder 13.
