Abstract

200,878. Day, A. March 23, 1922. Coating-machines. - In an apparatus for applying labels to packages the pile of labels is pressed against gummed pads 15, 16 carried on rotating arms and the label removed from the pads by reciprocating fingers. Gum is applied to the pads 15, 16 by rollers carried on levers 78 and taking gum from a roller 80 dipping into a gum trough 17. The applying-rollers are positively driven by chain gearing and are moved towards the pads by springs 87 and away therefrom by cams 70. Hooks 92 engaging with a rod carried by the levers 78 may hold the rollers away from the pads when required. An adjustable scraper 96 regulates the amount of gum delivered by the roller 80.
