Abstract

202,895. Mattia, P. de. Nov. 29, 1922. Moulding wheel tyres.-In a collapsable cone for moulding pneumatic tyres of the type in which pairs of core sections mounted to slide on radial guides are collapsed by first moving one pair of diametrically-opposed sections inwardly in the plane of the expanded core and then parallel to the axis of the core, the sections are collapsed by moving them in an oblique direction with respect to said plane. The core comprises two short key sections 1 preferably of wedge formation and two long sections 2 provided respectively with obliquely-disposed shanks 3, 5, having rack teeth 4, 6 which engage with teeth 13, 14 on the operating-members 11, 12. The latter are mounted in a hollow shaft 8 and provided with clutch-members 15, 16. A double clutch-member 25 secured to a shaft 21 by pin 26 and rotated by a hand-wheel 23 is slidably mounted in the shaft 8 so as to engage either of the members 15, 16 or to remain free between them. In a modification, the movement of the shaft 21 in one direction effects the retraction or expansion of the sections alternately.
