Abstract
A printing apparatus for blanket- offset printing comprises four mechanisms mounted in bores in side wall members and each comprising a respective plate cylinder (61 to 64) and a respective blanket cylinder (65 to 68), the blanket cylinders (65 to 68) being journalled in eccentric bushes (69 to 72). Blanket cylinders (65 to 68) respectively disposed beside or above one another are settable against each other in pairs by means of the eccentric bushes (69 to 72) to allow for either horizontal or vertical web paths. Alternatively, the apparatus allows different printing mechanisms for horizontal and vertical web paths to be selectably mounted since the bores in the side wall members will accommodate either. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
A Printing Apparatus
The present invention relates to an offset printing apparatus for blanket-offset printing with four printing mechanisms having transfer cylinders journalled in eccentric bushes.
Offset printing apparatuses for blanket-offset printing with four printing mechanisms for a vertical web course are known. Such printing apparatuses have also already been proposed for a horizontal web course, in the combination with one or two satellite cylinders (Journal "Deutscher
Drucker", No. 29-20, 1977, pages 200 to 206).
For a printing apparatus with one satellie cylinder, there is a corresponding variant for a vertical web course.
These printing apparatuses have the common disadvantage that they can only be used for one web course. Re-equipment of the printing assemblies in the printing works, from horizontal to vertical web use or conversely cannot be undertaken. Furthermore, it is not possible even by adaptation, for example by the use of other bearing bushes for transfer and plate cylinders, to mount printing assemblies for the other web course into the side walls of the printing apparatus. The printing apparatus manufacturer must produce special side walls for each web course, which results in increased production costs.
According to the present invention there is provided a printing apparatus for blanket offset printing, comprising four generally circumferentially disposed printing mechanisms and each comprising a transfer cylinder disposed in a respective side wall bore arid a plate cylinder wherein the apparatus is so arranged that the transfer cylinders disposed beside or above one another are settable against each other by rotation of eccentric bushes, the wall bores being disposed at the same positions relative to one another, or wherein the apparatus is so arranged that the transfer cylinders disposed beside and above one another in the same printing apparatus are settable against each other by rotation of the eccentric bushes.
Embodiments of the present invention will now be more particularly described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which
Fig. 1 shows a printing apparatus for a vertical web course,
Fig. 2 shows a printing apparatus for a horizontal web course, and
Fig. 3 shows a printing apparatus for selectable horizontal and vertical web courses.
Referring to the accompaying drawings, the printing apparatus shown in Fig. 1 comprises four transfer cylinders 1, 2, 3 and 4 which each cooperate with a respective plate cylinder 5, 6, 7 and 8. Transfer cylinder spigots 9, 10 11 and 12 are each journalled in a respective eccentric bush 13, 14, 1 5 and 1 6 with an eccentricity 1 7. Plate cylinder spigots 18, 19, 20 and 21 are each
received by a respective eccentric bush 22, 23,
24 and 25 with eccentricity 26.
The transfer cylinders 1,2 and 3, 4 respectively
disposed beside one another are set against one
another by means of the eccentric bushes 13, 14, 1 5 and 16, whereby blanket-offset printing with a
vertical web course is possible. The setting of the
plate cylinders 5, 6, 7 and 8 against the transfer
cylinders 1, 2, 3 and 4 takes place by means of the eccentric bushes 22, 23, 24 and 25. To turn the printing off, the eccentric bushes 13, 14, 1 5 and 16 are turned out of the setting 27 into the setting 28, whereby the transfer cylinders 1, 2, 3 and 4 assume the positions shown in dashed
lines.
The printing apparatus shown in Fig. 2 comprises four transfer cylinders 29, 30, 31 and 32, which each co-operate with a respective plate
cylinder 33, 34, 35 and 36. Transfer cylinder
spigots 37, 38, 39 and 40 are each journalled in a
respective eccentric bush 41, 42, 43 and 44 with
eccentricity 45. Plate cylinder spigots 46, 47, 48 and 49 are each received by a respective
eccentric bush 50, 51,52 and 53 with eccentricity 54. Wall bores for the eccentric bushes 41,42, 43, 44, 50, 51, 52 and 53 have the same position relative to one another as the corresponding bores of the printing unit according to Fig. 1.
The transfer cylinders 29, 31 and 30, 32 respectively disposed above one another are set against one another by means of the eccentric bushes 41, 42, 43 and 44 whereby a blanketoffset printing with a horizontal web course is possible. The setting of the plate cylinders 33, 34, 35 and 36 against the transfer cylinders 29, 30, 31 and 32 takes place by means of the eccentric bushes 50, 51, 52 and 53. To turn the printing off the eccentric bushes 41, 42, 43 and 44 are turned out of the setting 55 into the setting 56, whereby the transfer cylinders 29, 30, 31 and 32 assume the positions drawn in dashed lines.
Due to the unchanged position of the wall bores for the cylinders, printing apparatus shown in Fig. 1 or Fig. 2 can be mounted selectably with the same side walls.
In the printing apparatus shown in Fig. 3, four transfer cylinders 57, 58, 59 and 60 each cooperate with a respective plate cylinder 61, 62, 63 and 64. Transfer cylinder spigots 65, 66, 67 and 68 are journalled in a respective eccentric bush 69, 70, 71 and 72 with eccentricity 73.
Plate cylinder spigots 74, 75, 76 and 77 are each received by a respective eccentric bush 78, 79, 80 and 81 with eccentricity 82. An advantageous possibility of division of the side walls is indicated by the chain-dotted line.
In the illustrated setting 83 of the eccentric bushes, 69, 70, 71 and 72, the transfer cylinders 57, 58 and 59, 60 respectively disposed beside one another are set against one another, whereby a blanket-offset printing with a vertical web course is possible with the printing unit. By turning the eccentric bushes 69, 70, 71 and 72 out of the setting 83 into a setting 84, the co operating transfer cylinders 57, 58 and 59, 60 are separated and the transfer cylinders 57, 59 and 58, 60 disposed above one another are set against one another and assume the positions drawn in dashed lines. A blanket-offset printing with a horizontal web course is now possible with the printing apparatus. The setting of the plate cylinders 61, 62, 63 and 64 against the transfer cylinders 57, 58, 59 and 60 in their respective printing positions takes place by means of the eccentric bushes 78, 79,80 and 81. Eccentric settings (not shown) for turning off the printing are disposed between the settings 83 and 84 of the eccentric bushes 69, 70, 71 and 72. Instead thereof, a common setting "printing off" for horizontal and vertical web courses may be provided.
In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3 the wall bores of the printing apparatus have the same position relative to one another for the cylinder journalling as the corresponding bores of the printing apparatus shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Thereby, printing apparatus for horizontal or vertical web course or printing units resettable in respect of these web courses can be mounted to one end of the same side walls.
An advantage of the above described embodiments is that a printing apparatus can be manufactured so as to have greater possibilities of use. Also it is ensured that the same side walls are usable for vertical and horizontal web courses in an offset printing apparatus for blanket-offset printing with four printing mechanisms the transfer cylinders of which are journalled in eccentric bushes.
The printing apparatus manufacturer can selectably mount printing mechanisms for horizontal or vertical web course in one and the same side walls so that fewer and more economic wall designs need be produced. In the case of the selectabie adjustability of the transfer cylinders in one printing apparatus the printing apparatus can be reset in the printing works from horizontal to vertical web course and conversely.
The side walls of the printing apparatus can be standardized when the wall bores in all varients have the same position relative to one another.
