Abstract

1313066 Rotary presses NORTH AMERICAN ROCKWELL CORP 20 Sept 1971 [20 Nov 1970] 43757/71 Heading B6C The "flats" between resiliently covered ink forme rollers 42 and 42a Fig. 1 and a plate cylinder 11 are adjustable whilst the press is in operation by turning a cam ring 90 by a screwoperable control device 132. The cam ring 90 is eccentrically mounted about and relative to the shaft of the plate cylinder and such turning movement causes stopping surfaces 95, 95a on the ring to move relative to abutting surfaces 101, 101a on pivotably mounted rocker assemblies 50, 50a which carry the respective forme rollers 42, 42a. Similar adjusting mechanisms and roller and cylinder mountings are provided at each end of the rollers and cylinders and means may be provided whereby the adjustments are effected in unison. The cam rings 90 (one at each end) are mounted on collars 16 for rocking movement about an axis which is eccentric with respect to the axis of the cylinder 11 so that when the collars are rocked in bores 18 in a direction to achieve throw-off of the plate cylinder 11 with respect to the impression cylinder 12 the surfaces 95, 95a on the cam ring move radially outward with respect to the axis of the cylinder thereby to shift the surfaces 101, 101a to achieve simultaneous and automatic throw-off of the forme rollers from the plate on the cylinder 11. The forme roller 42 or 42a may be independently thrown-off from the ink drum 40 and the plate cylinder 11. The throw-off and adjusting devices are such that the press may be temporarily shut down and the plate cylinder thrown-off as required, for example, following breakage of a web and the press subsequently restarted without requiring any re-adjustment of the controls.
