Abstract

202,434. Horsfield, W. May 26, 1922. Pocket, pen, and like knives.-In pocket knives or the like, means for locking a pivoted blade, tool or the like, in the open or the closed position, comprises a rotary pin passing through the scales and provided therebetween with parts of different radii about the axis of rotation, an abutment on the tang of the blade &c., being engaged by the part of greater radius and adapted to pass the part of lesser radius. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the rotary locking pin 5 is cylindrical being formed between the scales with a flatted part 7. The tang of the blade 1, pivoted at 2 and controlled by the usual spring 4, is provided with a slot or recess 8 having a shoulder or abutment 9 adapted to be engaged and locked by the pin 5 when rotated to the position shown, conveniently by means of a shackle 6. The tang is released by turning the shackle and pin to the position indicated in broken lines. Alternative forms are described, comprising arrangements in which the rotary pin is provided between the scales with an arm or lug to engage the abutment 9, or it may be cylindrical but eccentrically mounted, or square or triangular in cross-section. Instead of the shackle 6, a ring may be attached to one end of the locking pin. Two or more blades &c. may be locked by the same pin.
