Abstract

In a sealing assembly of the type comprising two relatively rotatable members (14, 10), the first (14) of which has an internal cylindrical surface (12) and the second (10) of which has an external cylindrical surface (18) with an annular groove (36) therein, the second member being disposed and rotatable within the first member and a sealing ring 38 being disposed in the annular groove, leakage of gas or liquid past the seal is reduced by making the sealing ring (38) continuous with no circumferential gaps, the ring being an interference fit in the internal cylindrical surface 12 and being made from a plastics material which has sufficient elasticity to enable the radially inner diameter of the ring to be temporarily increased to enable fitment of the ring in the groove (38). <IMAGE>
