Abstract
1342410 Rotary shaft seals MILLFLEX SEALS Ltd 27 July 1972 [28 July 1971] 35411/71 Heading F2B In an end face rotary shaft seal comprising a flexible sleeve 14 surrounding the shaft 12 and extended axially by a coil spring 19 surrounding the sleeve, the spring is supported at each end of the sleeve in bearings 15 and 16 having radially inner and radially outer surfaces 24 and 25 respectively which restrict the changes in the spring diameter that tend to occur in use. The bearings are of metal and of U-section and have lips 23 engaging over tongues 17, 18 on the ends of the sleeve which is of rubber and at one end 13 is a tight fit on the shaft. The other end of the sleeve carries a carbon ring 21 urged, by the spring 9, into facial sealing contact with a ring 22 fixed to a wall 11 of the shaft housing.
