Abstract
A fuel container (1) of a motor vehicle includes a fuel flow conduit (3) and a fuel return conduit (4) of a fuel circulation system. The inflow side (10) of a filter (5) at the suction end of the flow conduit (3) is kept clean by a scavenging flow of returning fuel being directed by the outlet aperture (9) of the return conduit (4) across the inflow side (10) of the filter (5) and substantially transversely to the flow of fuel being sucked in direction of arrow A into the filter (5). The outlet aperture (9) can be circular in shape or alternatively it can form a fan-jet nozzle. In the latter case a fluidic element in the return conduit (4) upstream of the nozzle can cause the scavenging flow to issue in pulsatory fashion and in a continually changing direction. The aperture can have a plurality of outlet openings so that the filter (5) is washed by streams of fuel in different directions. The flow and return conduits (3,4) can form part of a dip pipe gauge (2). <IMAGE>
