Abstract

Belt fastenings.-Relates to appliances for holding belt staples or like fastenings in place whilst being applied and clinched to the belt end, of the type comprising a holding-member formed of a strip of metal folded upon itself and adapted to receive a removable pin. The folded metal holder 15, Figs. 2 and 3, may be cut away between the ends 18 to form a longitudinal seating groove 17 for V-shaped pronged fastenings 11 in continuous lengths, the retaining-pin 13 being inserted through the end loops 18; or the folded holding-member may be cut so as to provide spaced pairs of prongs or lugs 40, Fig. 6, to receive and position separate staples. The pin 13 is elongated in cross-section so that, when abutting against the belt end, as shown in Fig. 2, the loop 20 of the fastening will be positioned therefrom at a distance equal to the diameter of the joint pin by which the belt ends are united plus the thickness of the metal of the fastening, the pin thus serving as a gauge. The rear edges 15<a> of the holding-member are preferably inturned to provide four thicknesses of metal thereby regulating the spacing of the looped or folded edge 18.
