Abstract

In a color picture tube having a slit type apertured mask the slits in which are arranged in columns with the slits each column separated by webs 46, an improvement is made in web cross-section to increase electron beam transmission and to increase transmission uniformity. Specifically, the web walls on at least one side of the webs are angled generally parallel to the direction of electron beam incidence. Because of this angling, the slope of the walls relative to a surface of the mask on at least the side of the webs facing a central horizontal axis of the mask changes with changes in distance from the central horizontal axis of the mask. All portions of the slit throats (namely in each slit the most restricted opening permitting passage of an electron beam) are closer to one surface of the mask than to the center of the mask thickness dimension. This reduces the sensitivity to etching of the effective web dimension in the direction of the aperture columns. Fabrication may be by the combination of photoresist and etching techniques. <IMAGE>
