Abstract
The carburettor includes a plug type throttle valve 23, a fuel metering needle valve joined to the throttle valve 23 by an arm 45 and a thermostatically controlled mechanism controlling closing movement of the two valves, which includes a catch 52 which engages the arm 45 during cranking and for a predetermined time after the engine begins running on its own. Hence the two valves are held open until the catch is released at the end of that period whereupon the two valves move together freely to a partially closed location from where they move progressively in the closing direction as the engine warms up. The catch is released by deformation of a bimetallic element 55 which is heated by heat remitted by a positive temperature co-efficient element 54 to which the output of an engine driven alternator is applied. <IMAGE>
