Abstract

Rollers and the like, treating.-A machine for grinding discs or rollers comprises a casing a supported by spiders b on a shaft c and having fitted on its inner peripheral surface one or more grooved cast iron rings d. Between the rings d and grooved rings e, carried by arms or discs f secured to the shaft c, are placed the rollers g to be ground; the grinding is effected by rotation of the rings e, abrading-material and oil being fed thereto through passages c<1>, c<2> in the shaft. The grooved rings e may each comprise two half rings each carried by a disc f, the discs of each pair being pressed together by springs i, and the minimum distance between the discs, which controls the minimum size to which the rollers are ground, being determined by set-screws n extending through one disc to form a stop for the other. The rings d may be divided similarly. The ends of the rollers or the surfaces around the central passages therein, when these are provided, are ground by abrading-surfaces r carried by spring rings o disposed on the sides of the rings d. The casing a is mounted on trunnions t, Fig. 3, whereby it may be rotated for loading or unloading; for this purpose also, an opening may be provided in the rings, or the spiders b may be movable axially on the shaft c and held in operative position by hinged bolts w. To permit of the tilting, the shaft c is coupled by a coupling s to the driving-shaft.
