Abstract

A process for the production of granular materials comprises granulating a solid water-containing material capable of releasing water at a temperature below its melting point, alone or in admixture with one or more other solid materials, in a granulating apparatus whilst heating the material sufficiently to cause it to release water. The process finds particular application in the production of granular detergent compositions, or granular ingredients therefor, employing as water-containing material hydrated alkali metal silicates or hydrated alkali metal phosphates.
