Abstract

A valve-discharge cistern 10, 11 permits flushing using either of two amounts of liquid. The outlet 12 is surrounded by a tubular valve member 18 which is upwardly displaceable on fixed guides 15, has small inlet apertures 20b, and has a lower neck portion 19 closable by a lift valve 22 on a flushing rod 24. Locking levers 29a, 29b displaceable by a cam 32 on rod 24 maintain the valve member 18 against the outlet seat 21. For a partial flush the handle 25 on rod 24 is raised to open valve 22 as shown and so discharge the contents of tube 18, which refills only slowly. For a full flush the handle 25 is raised further so that the cam 32 releases the locking levers 29 as it approaches stop 16, whereupon the partly-emptied tube 18 floats upwardly on its guides 16 and discharges the whole cistern contents. <IMAGE>
