Abstract
Compounds of one of the following formulae <IMAGE> in which X represents halogen or trifluoromethyl Y1 and Y2 which may be the same or different, represent hydrogen, alkyl, acyl, aryl, substituted aryl or a heterocyclic group; R1 represents hydrogen, lower alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, benzyl, substituted benzyl, aralkyl, a heterocyclic group or a substituted heterocyclic group; n = 0 or an integer from 1 - 4; R2 represents amino, substituted amino, guanidino, substituted guanidino, halogen, alkyl substituted alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl or a heterocyclic group and R3 represents hydrogen, lower alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, benzyl, substituted benzyl, aralkyl a heterocyclic group, a substituted heterocyclic group or acyl, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, have diuretic and antihypertensive activity. 2-Acetimido-5-chloro-6-sulphamyl- 1H benzimidazole and 5(6)-chlorobenzimidazole- 6(5)sulphonamide and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof are also claimed.
