Abstract
Crane 10 comprises beam 12, mounted on carriages 14 which engage rails on supports, and trolley 120 which engages tracks formed by T-section girders 38, 40. One of the tracks is the underneath of the cross limbs of girder 40 whereby the trolley 120 can extend in cantilever fashion from the side of the ring beam 12 to load it torsionally. Drives comprising motors 72; 86; 88 (not shown); 102, winding barrels (not shown); 78; 92; 106 and pulleys 80 (not shown); 82; 94 (not shown); 96; 108 are mounted on beam 12 for traversing trolley 120, operating a main hook assembly 288 and an auxiliary hook assembly (not shown). Motors 86, 88 (not shown); 102 and winding barrels 92; 106 for the hook assemblies are mounted in recesses 56; 58 in beam 12 whereby trolley 120 can closely approach the beam ends (see ghost hook 314). <IMAGE>
