Abstract
201,818. Ward, H. Oct. 21, 1922. Expanding pulleys composed of movable tread segments S having their adjacent faces S<3> curved according to Specification 185,036 are expanded by a sleeve C within the pulley and sliding on the barrel P of the pulley. Each sleeve C has an incline or inclines C<1> coacting with inclines S<4> on the inner flanks of the segments S. The sleeve C thrust axially by means D thrusts the segments out against springs D<2>. Part of the tread surface may be arranged to have rollers L<2> projecting above it to give the effect of fast-and-loose pulleys.
