Abstract

201,788. Johnson, E. Aug. 25, 1922. Automatic circuit-breakers for three-phase currents are constructed with fuzes in two of the circuits so that the blowing of one or both of them causes the automatic opening of a switch in the third circuit. The pivoted switch arm 7 is normally pressed by a weak spring 8 into contact with the fixed contact 9; and the circuits for the other two phases are normally closed by means of members 1 and 3. Should one of the fuze rods 5 melt, the member 3 corresponding to it is pulled back by a strong spring 6, and, bearing against a bar 10 fixed to the switch arm 7, overcomes the weak spring 8 and causes the arm 7 to break contact. For small currents, the current may be led along a resistance wire wound round the rod 1, thereby heating the rod 1 and melting the fuze rod.
