Abstract

An offshore structure, such as a drilling platform, which is able to withstand the ice forces imposed thereon by impinging ice sheets and other larger masses of ice is provided with an upper conical portion 6 coaxially positioned relative to a lower conical portion 4. The surfaces forming the walls of both the upper and lower conical portions are inclined at an angle to the horizontal to receive ice masses moving into contact with the structure.
