Abstract

High pressure cut-off valve (for a spray gun) is of the type in which a control piston unit 1 is driven by the controlled pressure medium to reduce the holding or actuating forces that are applied by an operator via mechanism 9, movement of the unit controlling flow between an inlet 5 and an outlet union 6 for the pressure medium. The control piston unit has a shank portion 10 upstream of valve closure portion 7, a counterpiston 11, and a pressure equalising channel 12. A vent passage 19 is provided. The effective areas of the closure portion 7, shank portion 10 and counterpiston 11 exposed to the fluid pressure, may be such as to support the closing force, support the opening force or maintain neutrality. In another embodiment the control piston unit is provided with a throttling band (13) having tapered grooves (16) at one end. <IMAGE>
