Electric pencils.-In electric pencils for retouching photographs or the like, of the kind wherein vibratory movement produced by electromagnet apparatus is imparted to the pencilholder through a flexible wire, a swivelling connection is provided between the pencil-holder and the wire, and a clamp with a ball-and-socket attachment is provided for securing the box containing the electromagnetic apparatus to a desk, shelf, or other convenient place. The pencilholder d, Fig. 1, comprises a sheet metal tubular socket, split longitudinally at i and secured by solder or other means to a sleeve j, which is rotatable upon a rod h but is prevented from longitudinal movement thereon by a groove k near its end engaging a corresponding groove l in the rod. A short length of india-rubber tubing g encloses the outer end of the rod h and one end of the flexible wire c, thereby providing a resilient connection, and the other end of the wire is surrounded by a similar tube f to prevent damping of the vibrations of the wire through contact with the edges of the orifice e where it emerges from the box b containing the electromagnetic apparatus. The box b is attached to a member m provided with a ball n engaging in a socket o which forms part of a clamp p adapted to be secured upon the edge of a desk or the like by a clamping screw q. The socket o is formed in two halves and is provided with a bolt s and wing nut r to enable the box to be clamped at any angle allowing the flexible wire to hang free from contact with other objects.
